Thump Coffee is featured in the January 2009 issue of Fresh Cup Magazine, a monthly national publication for specialty coffee and tea professionals. The two-page “Café Crossroads – Retailer Spotlight” article includes a Q&A-style interview with Thump owners, Kent and Hazel Chapple. Photos of the shop’s interior and exterior taken by Thump barista Steven Chaprnka and Bend photographer Ross Chandler accompany the article.
“Café Crossroad is Fresh Cup’s most popular monthly column,” says Julie Beals, Fresh Cup editor. “All of our surveys/research and anecdotal evidence clearly show that our readers love it.”

Here’s the introduction to the Café Crossroads article: “Thump may not be an obvious name for a coffeehouse — it could have any number of meanings without signaling a particular identity,” writes Chris Ryan, associate editor at Fresh Cup Magazine. “But ambiguity is exactly what led Thump owners Kent and Hazel Chapple to choose it. ‘We all had different interpretations of what it means,’ Kent says. ‘We realized that the word ‘thump’ resonates with a lot of people on a lot of different levels.’ So, too, is the coffeehouse resonating with customers — located in downtown Bend, Thump has been serving specialty coffee to the city’s growing population for the last two years.”
:: ABOUT FRESH CUP
Since 1992, Fresh Cup has been delivering in-depth analysis of the specialty coffee and tea industries, helping businesses in these industries to make informed business decisions and deliver first-rate products and services. Fresh Cup is devoted to giving readers the most vital, up-to-date information to enrich and improve business. Over 15 years, coffeehouses and tearooms evolved from obscurity to the norm while their suppliers – from roasters and blenders to syrup companies and cup manufacturers – went from small entrepreneurial ventures in closet-sized offices to today’s sophisticated coast-to-coast businesses. Fresh Cup has documented and influenced this evolutionary process.
