In May, our primary baker, Janet Miick of The Bittersweet Kitchen, did what she does best: She entered her fudge cake with praline espresso buttercream filling, draped in ganache, and accessorized with tinted white chocolate tiles in the Tour Du Chocolat competition at the Tower Theatre – and walked away with “Best Use of Unique Ingredients.” Congrats Janet for being only 1 of 5 competitors to win an award! Check out Janet’s blog to learn more about this event and Janet’s “blatherings” about baking.

OK, because of her spoiling us with tremendous cakes, tarts and the like for special gatherings and events, we have become a bit of a dessert snob. If you want the densest, dark chocolate cake covered with chocolate ganache, she’s your woman. Lemon blueberry cake with lemon curd filling, and rich, tart, French lemon buttercream (none of that light, fluffy, too sweet stuff) she’s your gal. Beautiful fruit tarts that are a little tart, not too sweet, with an amazing shortbread crust, talk to Janet at the Bittersweet Kitchen!

The Bittersweet Kitchen has a new website where you can get some visuals on Janet’s amazing cakes, tarts and baked goods. Some of the pictures were taken of cakes and tarts made for staff birthdays, holiday parties and special events held at Thump. Take a look!
