thumpista I: Anna
If you listen closely, you’ll hear a hint of a southern drawl when Anna answers the phone at thump that gives away her Fredericksburg, Virginia roots. Drawn here by “…a landscape that spoke to me…” and a free place to crash at her brother’s place, Anna left the East Coast for the West. We’re pretty sure she’s found her home!
The youngest of five in a family of scientists, Anna graduated from the University of Virginia where she studied architecture and biology. “I’m inclined toward the artistic, and architecture is a pleasant marriage of art and science. My knowledge of biology and natural systems inspired my architecture.” Her art and science background has also served her well at thump! It’s been wonderful to observe Anna’s mechanical mind intensely grasp the finer points of pouring fantastic espresso, and her artistic mind learn to create beautiful latte art!
In a couple of years, Anna hopes to move on to medical school and envisions being an expedition base-camp doctor. In addition to seeing Anna at thump, you may run into her this upcoming ski season at Mt. Bachelor, as she will be joining the National Ski Patrol’s Mountain First Program. How lucky are we that Anna is with us at thump!
thumpista II: Steven
Steven is off for nine weeks of cycling in Eastern Europe with his roommate Brett. They have an ambitious itinerary starting “south, through Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bosnia, Serbia, Croatia, Austria/Czech Republic, Germany, and back to Poland,” Steven explains. He hopes to visit family in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. He’ll be back at thump at the end of October.
