Throughout December: A Celebration of the Bicycle featuring Paul Carew, Jo Lundberg, Byron Roe
All month long, we present a celebration of the bicycle, featuring bicycle art by photographers Paul Carew and Byron Roe and watercolor paintings by Jo Lundberg.
Local photographer Paul Carew offers limited edition cyclo-cross posters and calendars. Jo Lundberg presents biomorphic bicycle paintings. Byron Roe presents images captured at the 2008 and 2009 WebCyclery Thrilla Cross Series in Bend.
“These pieces are part of a series inspired by the Cyclo-Cross National Championships held last year in Bend,” says Lundberg. “The series morphs sweet rides and biomorphic handlebars, creating whimsical images and a vintage aesthetic.” For more, visit Jo Lundberg’s website.
“In an attempt to capture the essence and excitement of the sport of cyclo-cross, I have chosen two images to represent the spirit of the sport; Fast, Fun and Furious,” explains Carew.
“As a long time cyclist and athlete, I was inspired to show off the raw side of a sport that few know much about,” says Roe. “There’s such an interesting mysticism to a sport that seems to push each competitor to the breaking point regardless of ability level. The culture, camaraderie, sweat, dirt and crashes are all part of what makes this sport so alluring to me as a photographer.” Roe’s images were captured at the 2008 and 2009 WebCyclery Thrilla Cross Series in Bend.
