From the first conversation I had with Leah (a phone call for an available position at thump) during which she mused out loud that the actual interview might involve some sort of Survivor-like reality TV barista challenge, I knew that thump was the right fit for her! The wit that came through in our first [...]
If you lived in Bend between 1980 and 1999, you surely remember Bend’s first introduction to espresso at Coffee & Co. on Wall St., next to the Tower Theater. At the tender age of 8, our featured thumpista Mark, started serving coffee at there.
An avid world traveler, Brian is most likely a familiar face to those of you who frequented Royal Blend Cafes between 2000-2005 and Great Harvest Bakery in more recent years.

Last time I interviewed Steven for our “thumpista” article, he interjected into the conversation that he was giving us six months notice to take two months off from thump to tour Eastern Europe on his bike. “Just a heads up!” I filed that information away and pondered this ambitious goal. Lo and behold, he and his friend Brett traveled for nine weeks and almost 2,000 miles, while we held a job for his return.

Kent and I love welcoming back staff after they have taken time away to explore the world. So many of us dream of doing something like taking several months to travel throughout South America during their winter to snowboard and study Spanish, but we don’t manage to make it happen.

In less than three months since joining us at thump, Stephanie has competed in seven running races, ranging from 5K to half marathon (placing 1st in two half marathons!), a 13-hour adventure race and her first-ever cycling race (placing 3rd). A Bend native is sometimes hard to come by, but after graduating from Bend High and Lewis & Clark College, Alex has returned home. If graduating from college in three years with Magna Cum Laude honors is any indication of Alex’s drive, we’re guessing

Meredith is one of our original staff. She recently celebrated her birthday in Vegas with thumpistas Sheena and Elspeth. Sure, there was the climbing outing to Red Rocks and Cirque du Soliel, but the other details aren’t as clear – something about dancing until they had blisters and . . . ? You know the [...]

Wonder Twins activate! (A flashback phrase for those of you who watched cartoons in the ’70s.) Thump is most fortunate to have Elspeth, Sheena’s twin sister, join our crew. After returning to the States from 6+ months of traveling and visiting family with Sheena in Peru and South America, Elspeth decided to make Bend her [...]

Jackie’s life has taken her from her birthplace of Oklahoma City, OK, to Durango, CO (3 times), Moro Bay, CA, Juneau, AK and finally Bend, OR. Along the way, she met her husband Chris, whose job at Oxygen [...]
